Nanaimo City Council creates convoluted advisory board of private interests
Neglects to give itself seats in its own Economic Development Corporation.
Nanaimo, BC, June 10, 2011: Diane Brennan, former Nanaimo City Councillor, laments the council's decision to monitor itself, yet again, and calls on it to dissolve the unnecessary privatization machine it has built to guide it.
"Just when you thought a stake had been driven through the heart of privatization of public services, along comes Nanaimo and your hopes are dashed.
This council has flirted with privatization for some time now. They seem not to trust themselves. Again and again they contrive to put an arm's length between themselves and important civic decisions. During budget deliberations, council considered hiring a private company to make recommendations about what were this city's "core" services..."
