Street sweepers have Sudbury City Council wondering why it chose private

Contractor needs help from City to fulfil contract.

Belli said he has had numerous phone calls from residents complaining about dust.Sudbury, ON, May 18, 2011: Martha Dillman writes in the Northern Life that due to increment weather, street sweeping services have suffered in Sudbury this year. The new private contractor who operates the service hired other contractors and relegated some tasks back to the city in order to fulfill the terms of the contract in a timely manner. But city residents are not satisfied with the job being done.

"Ward 8 Councillor Fabio Belli said he's 'really disappointed' with the street sweeping services this year and said some streets may need to be redone.

Belli brought up his concerns at the May 18 Greater Sudbury policy committee meeting.

Street sweeping in Greater Sudbury is primarily contracted out, and city crews assist with the cleaning as well. In 2011, a new contractor was awarded the bid to clean the streets, explained Greg Clausen, general manager of infrastructure with the city¬Ö"
