Newmarket, ON librarians "not asking for the moon"

Campaign strives for parity with other library workers in region.

CUPE members hold an info picket over stalled talks.A leaflet entitled "We're not asking for the moon" warned the public of a pending strike over issues including employer efforts to replace part-time workers with volunteers and unfair sick leave provisions.

CUPE Local 905 members from the Newmarket Public Library in Ontario also drew attention to the high number of non-unionized management staff in proportion to the unionized staff. The union members are only asking for parity with other library workers in the York Region.

"Members held an information picket on Tuesday, January 4, to let their patrons know about the sad state of their negotiationsÂ…"
