Government liquor store privatization risk-free?

Not so fast, says Virginia study.

Privitization Risk-Free? Not So Fast As we debate Gov. Bob McDonnell's proposal to privatize the sale of liquor in the commonwealth, it is healthy to remember that we have bigger problems with alco hol than how to distribute it. Top of the list is excessive consumption and the personal and social ills that brings.

Those concerned privatization will increase excessive drinking have been assured by the proponents that their fears are groundless. The evidence offered is a single, very brief study published by the Virginia Institute for Public Policy in July and previewed by its authors, Donald Boudreaux and Julia Williams...
