Be wary, promised savings may never materialize, warns Herald columnist.
Calgary Herald columnist warns Calgarians to be "wary, very wary" of promised savings from the privatized construction of schools and roads. "I'm getting very nervous about the government's binge of 30-year contracts with private companies," write Don Braid.
"Every time the politicians and ecstatic company executives make an announcement, we're told that millions -- or even a billion -- will be saved.
But the numbers for public-private partnerships don't always make sense. And there are plenty of numbers we aren't hearing at all....
