Costco supports privatization of US liquor sales

Retail giant already contributed $11 million this year.

OLYMPIA, WA, October 13, 2011: The Associated Press reports on Forbes.com that for the second year in a row, Costco has sponsored liquor privatization laws. A new proposal replaces last year's and the vote will be held in November.

"Costco Wholesale Corp. has given more than $11 million to support an initiative campaign that would privatize Washington's liquor distribution and sales.

New finance reports filed with the state Public Disclosure Commission show Costco ( COST - news - people ) giving an additional $2.8 million to the cause last week, bringing their total cash contribution to over $9.6 millionÂ…"
