Secret emails reveal multi-level plans to privatize health care delivery in the UK

Concerns strongest over basic right to health care, foreign involvement.

Williams: Why get away from the NHS as a public service, among the most efficient, least expensive? September 3, 2011: Critics fear the gradual privatization of the NHS, Toby Helm reports in The Guardian, and secret emails revealing the planned sale of twenty hospitals to foreign interests reaffirm suspicions already engendered by a clause in a bill under review which would remove the state's obligation to provide free healthcare.

"The future of the government's health reforms has been plunged into fresh doubt as the Liberal Democrat peer Shirley Williams raises new concerns, and secret emails reveal plans to hand over the running of up to twenty hospitals to overseas companies. The revelations come as MPs prepared to return to Westminster on Tuesday for what promises to be a crucial stage of the flagship health and social care bill.
